National Disaster Consciousness Month
The observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) highlights the core intention to create heightened awareness on disasters for the Filipino people. The NDCM is held annually in the month of July which has been started in 1999 by former President Joseph Estrada through Executive Order No. 137.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Chairperson and National leads the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM). All NDRRMC member-agencies and Office of Civil Defense OCD Regional Offices will undertake various activities for the month of July.
In line with this month’s activities, the OCD launches the first Resilience Mobile Photography Contest aiming to raise awareness among young people on disaster resilience. The contest is open to all Filipino students, 16 years old and above, currently enrolled in high school and college. The contest will be from 1 July and will to on 20 July 2016. Photograph entries must be taken using mobile phones only and submisson shall be done online through the OCD website. There is over PhP240,000 worth of cash prizes including a Most Popular Photo Award to be determined via Facebook likes.
All NDRRMC member-agencies and OCD Regional Offices will be undertaking various activities in observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month. ●
