Magnitude 6.0 Quake Rocks Agusan del Sur
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in landlocked province of Agusan del Sur in northeastern Mindanao on 4 September 2016. The epicenter was registered 16 kilometers southeast of Talacogon town in Agusan del Sur at 10:38 a.m. The earthquake was of tectonic origin and had a depth of focus of 6 kilometers. There were 16 aftershocks recorded.
The earthquake was strongest at Intensity 6 in Talacogon, Rosario and La Paz towns in Agusan del Sur. Intensity 5 was felt in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur; intensity 4 in Butuan City and Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur and in Tagum City; intensity 3 in Gingoog, Misamis Oriental and Bislig City and Davao City and in Balingaon and Balingasag, Misamis Oriental; intensity 2 in Cagayan de Oro City; and intensity 1 in Kidapawan City.
There was no report of anyone hurt due to the earthquake. The provincial chief executive in a phone interview with Manila Bulletin said that there was no damage reported which the chief executive may be referring to visible or ocular damages. ●
